I have XP, on a PC, and I have a dead laptop with a destroyed cd-drive, and I want to install win 98 on the old laptop(100mhz, 24mb ram.). How would I do it?
The laptop currently has nothing on it. Or, how could I install 98 to the laptop from my pc? The laptop has no usb ports. My pc does though(700mhz, 384mb) if that would help. Or can I connect the laptop drive into my pc somehow and make my pc think it is a drive, and install 98' to it? Any help would be good. Thanks- Zack

You'll be VERY disappointed with the performance of the laptop running Win98. It'll do OK on a 100-MHz processor, but the 24-MB RAM is a problem. Win95 would run a LOT better on this machine.
In order to connect to your PC, you have several choices:
1) If both computers have NIC's, you can connect using an Ethernet CROSSOVER cable. Boot the PC with a DOS Network bootdisk, enable sharing on the PC's CD drive, copy the Win9x directory to the laptop's HD, then run setup from the HD.
2) Connect the computers with a serial (poor choice) or parallel (much faster) CROSSOVER cable (also called a Laplink cable or null-modem cable). Then use a program such as Laplink to connect the computers & copy the Win9x directory. You can download Laplink 4 here.
3) Remove the laptop's HD & temporarily install it into the PC as the secondary master (so that you won't have to mess with jumpers.) Enable it in the BIOS, reboot, & copy the Win9x directory using Drag & Drop. Then reinstall the HD into the laptop BEFORE running setup. If you try to run setup while still connected to the PC, it'll detect the wrong hardware & you'll have a mess to straighten out when you reinstall it into the laptop. You'll need a 2.5-inch to 3.5-inch HD adapter to install the HD into the PC. If you can't find one locally, you can order one here.
