I have a Gateway Solo 5300 that came with Windows XP installed on it. I decided that I wanted to reinstall XP so I put in the Operating System CD and restarted the computer. I came to a screen that asked if I wanted to install XP on the same partition or on a new one. If you choose a new one it says that you can't because criticle setup files will be destroyed. If you choose to set it up on the same one It says that you could have problems with two OS at the same time. Well, I set up another XP OS on the same partition. Now I have two XP's installed and I have to choose which one I want to go into each time I boot the computer up. How do I install just ONE XP on my computer?
just delete one of the windows folders and the correspondent "all users" and "username" folders. then edit the boot.ini and delete one of the winxp installations

the gateway OEM CD will install fine if that's what you used to create 2 OS's in the first place.

If you were using Win98, deleting the duplicate files is not enough, you would also need to run the command sys C: this would change the startup and in Win98 this would rewrite the boot code, does anyone know if this will work with XP?
