I'm working on a computer that in Windows 2000 restarts before it shows the
Windows 2000 logo and keeps doing this.

When I've tried to load Windows XP cORPORATE and Windows 2000...I get the following error(which appear to be the same for both of them):

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the
Stop message, disable the driver or check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters....(The error went on.)

I don't see any indication anything is wrong with the driver. Would a different hard drive possibly work?

AFter I installed a different video card I got this error when trying to install Windows xp:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any windows updates you might need.

If problem continue, disable or remove any newly insalled hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

***Stop: 0X000000CA (0X00000003, 0X82BEDCE0, 0XE104C9A0, 0X00000004)

wOULD IT HELP TO REPLACE THE HARD DRIVE...WHAT MOST LIKELY IS THE PROBLEM AND HOW CAN IT BE FIXED???

I would suspect the hard drive is failing or possibly the ram. If there are 2 sticks of ram, try it with one, then the other, see if the problem persists.

One more possibility is that the power supply may not be pushing enough power.

Some HELP in posting on Computing.net plus free progs and instructions Cheers
