Installation error

Having a problem with installing programs. Just started to happen and I can't figure out why. I download a program or demo for a game, anything to my desktop and when I try and start the program it will not install or run I keep getting an error message. It says "Windows has run into a problem and now needs to close the program." Any ideas out there? Help is greatly appreciated Thanx

Is that the exact message Windows XP gives you, or are you paraphrasing what the actual message is?? I have never heard of the error message, and if you are getting it I suggest you run your Antivirus program, double especially if you are downloading and installing off the net, triple especially if they are warez sites.

Ok this is the exact message im getting "program has generated errors and will be closed by windows. you will need to restart the program" and i did check for viruses several times no virus is detected
