Comment:
Greetings,For Kicks, I was wanting to test install an XP Home OS onto an old Zenith.[It currently runs Win ME w/ 2 Hd's.] I Googled somewhat, but to no avail. When attempting the install, Microsoft pops a window "XP Needs minimum 96 Ram to install". Surely, with the knowledge and experience here on Computing Net, someone has broken the "Code", and can possibly tell me what File, Dll, etc. to alter on My OS Install disk (to succesfully install)?! Thanks -EZ

Even if you could complete your mission, what's the point of taxing the system with so little memory. Use another min memory req. OS instead and keep the old hardware online that way. Just a suggestion.

Thanks PT Cruiser. I just initiated the install, it's about 1/3 of the way done. Seems I overlooked the obvious way to install,.....installed a 64 ram , and off she goes. Once install done, I'll remove the "helper" Ram , then hopefully tweaking begins. I'll post back later. -EZ

The reason MS don't allow an install with less than 96M RAM is because the performance of XP would be about hopeless if you did.
The chances of you trimming back XP to run in any reasonable fashion with 48M RAM are about zilch (unless you are proposing to rewrite XP itself).
I'm not trying to encourage you but I suppose if I was attempting this I would first offload all but the most essential XP features. I don't fancy your chances much tho.
