I have a Sony Vaio laptop, model PCG-R505EL, one with a docking station. The OS came along with it was Windows XP Home Edition. Now I want to install XP Professional on it, but it could not boot from the CD (the CD drive is in the docking station). Someone told me it may be because the docking station requires a special driver, which is not included in the regular XP Pro CD. I want to use startup floppy disks to boot the machine, then let it read from the CD drive. But from what I read from the websites, some people said the startup disks won't work for XP; others said you can't upgrade XP Home to XP Pro using the startup disks.
Have anybody successfully installed XP Pro in a Vaio R505 laptop? Or does anyone know how to get around the problem? Thanks a lot for any help.

If you have the install drivers for the dockingstation/CD then at start of XP install from floppy you hit F6 key and offer the drivers. Check manufacturers website support!
