I have a Dell laptop, with a non working DVD-rom drive. It's an 800MHz P-III. I want to set it up to use on the road for surfing the net and other basic functions.
Here is my plan for installing windows on it - remove the hard drive, and put it in my desktop. Format and partition into two sections, and then copy my WIN XP disc on to one of the partitions.
Then, boot the computer with a DOS boot disc, and install windows onto the blank partition.
Anyone care to tell me how and where my plan is flawed? Will this work? I don't really want to go ahead with a plan that will be a waste of time, and if there are alternate ways to make it work I would love to hear about them. Thanks
Max

This will not work because when u try to start XP setup from the HDD it will give error that it requires Windows.
Now u do one thing. Goto I386 folder in the Windows XP's setup folder (where u saved it) and run winnt.exe. Now the setup will start. And ur plan will succeed. :-)
