Do you have TWO copies of Windows on the same partition? You are asking for problems.

If D: is a second hard disk and not a partition on the first drive, it should be fine.

For what it's worth to XP users: When you click on the 'Command Prompt' you are just causing the 'Command prompt' to be displayed. This prompt gives you access to the 'NT Virtual DOS Manager'.

Unplug your XP drive while booting with W7 DVD, that should solve your problem.
W7 won't recognise XP anyway, nor create a duall boot for it, you will need to use a boot manager like EasyBCD to do that for you.

Today I installed windows 7 to a new partition om my only drive.
It gave me a list of partitions to choose where my installation went.

You don't need a boot manager.

My pc has 2 boot options, win 7 or older operating systems.

It defaults to win 7, but I if I choose older operating system, I have my original boot options.

clive, that's what it's supposed to do.

Jennifer, I gathered that.

It was anmor, talking about a boot manager, that's why I mentioned what I had.

So far, my webcam, & printer work, it plays mpeg4 films, I didn't need to download & install codecs.

Live messenger installed, but wouldn't log on, I had to use compatibility mode.

So far so good.
