install volume on computer

Specs: Windows XP
I can't reinstall my volume Icon in the task bar when I go into start menu and go to control panels and I click on sounds and audio devises.... the first screen that allows to make changes is grayish not highlighted and does not let me change anything. I tried to run i386 and sndvol.32.exe but it does not find any of them.....please I don't know what else to do. I tried downloading the volume shadow copy service SDK, v 7.2 but nothing happened....I did restarted the computer but still no volume. please I don't have the cd to reinstall it. What should I do????

Petraj, SWAG, don't have a for sure answer, but a 'maybe'. Have your quicklaunch enabled? If not - do.
Go to your control panel>sounds and audio devices and put a check in the 'show speaker icon in quicklaunch. Dunno if that installs it or not. Think it's already there, that just makes it accessible with a RIGHTCLICK.
