hello, i have a really bad problem. for some reason, when i double click on an .exe installer, it doesnt work. nothing happens. the two files which i noticed didnt work were the download accelerator 7 installer and the system mechanic pro 5 installer. i re-downloaded both twice just to be sure, and still nothing. i dont if there might be something wrong with the registry or something. i havent done anything new. the only problem that happened prior to this is that my i.e. homepage was hijacked by some searchfor.com thing. although i clear that with hij@ack this, it still comes back and i have to clear it everytime before i use i.e. 6. im not sure if there's any correlation. please help me with the .exe installer problem. thank you.

Install spywareblaster for the page hijack. Then try start-run type-sfc /scannow to repair the installer.msi files. You will need the xp cd.

You may also need cwshredder, adaware, and spybot to get rid of the hijack. all free from a google search.

If no EXE files will run, download and run EXEFIX08 http://home.earthlink.net/~rmbox/Reticulated/Toys.html
