I downloaded the newest version of Nero from their website, and when I run the setup file I get the following message:
Installer error
The executable file has been corrupted
I have downloaded the file numerous times and keep getting the same message. I even took the same file and tried it on my other computer and it installed fine. I am currently running Win XP but I have tried this file on the same PC with Win 98 and Win 2K and I get the same problem. What is wrong with my computer that the file will not install even after a reformat and a new OS but it installs fine on my other pc? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.-Eric

Yes, I have stopped trying to install it on my XP machine becuase the same error continually happens.
If anyone out there has the answer to why this happens and the fix for there are many people I know with the same issue.
Thanks

To add to my previous post:
I have tried downloading the install file from several different locations. I have tried installing it as the actual administrator account and as my user with admin rights. I have turned off antivirus etc. Nothing seems to make a difference. To add salt to the wounds there are just a few people I know who have no issue installing it on their XP boxes.

This probably won't be of much use to anyone, but I can tell you about my problems with Nero.
I was running XP and Nero 5.5.5.1 with no problems to speak of. A friend brought gave me his copy of 5.5.8.2 because he loves Adaptec too much apparently. I installed it. It sucked. It was "NeroXpress" and featured annoying wizards that could not be circumvented, so I opted to uninstall and go back to 5.5.5.1
"Add/Remove Programs" gave me an error when I tried to uninstall Nero about not being able to find the configuration file. No problem I thought. I deleted the program folder (C:\Program Files\ahead) and proceeded to reinstall. This is the first time I got to see "Installer Error: The executable is corrupted!". I tried again. Same message. I went to the Nero website and downloaded another copy of 5.5.5.1, but no luck. Still got the same error message. I assumed that the setup program was grabbing info from my registry, so I fired up REGEDIT and deleted all references to "nero" and "ahead". Rebooted. Tried again. Same problem! I searched my drive and found a few more references and deleted them. Tried again. Still not working!
I should point out that I have been using Nero in conjunction with Windows XP on my machine for several months, and also my hardware configuration has not changed at all. Nothing added, nothing removed.
At this point I'm thinking "bummer" but on the bright side I made an image of my boot drive using Ghost a mere week before all hell broke loose, so I decided to re-image my drive hoping that would resolve my problem once and for all. Three minutes later I'm back in XP, and shocked to discover I had already installed 5.5.8.2 before making my backup. I went to "Add/Remove Programs" and attempted to uninstall Nero, but alas it complained and refused to uninstall. Should have known.
As a result of this fiasco, and as a last resort, I reluctantly proceeded to reload my system. And I didn't just do a "quickie", I FDISK'd, FORMAT'd (/u) and even opted to install Windows 2000 instead of XP this time. I've used Nero with Windows 2000 for many many months. Giddy with anticipation, as soon as the initial installation was finished the very first thing I did was try to install Nero 5.5.5.1. Same error!
Even after suspecting virus activity, scanning with three different antivirus programs found nothing. I even re-flashed my BIOS thinking maybe something was lurking in there. And let's not forget that I emptied my temp folder and even changed to path so the installer would extract the setup files into a different folder on a different drive! I even crossed my fingers AND my legs AND my arms.
In another forum I heard accusations of "It's the Via KT133 chipset causing problems" and "It's a compatibility issue with SoundBlasters" but I can assure you that is not the case. With the exception of my video card & cpu, everything in my system has been there for about a year, and I've successfully installed Nero more than once since the addition of my GeForce 3 and Athlon XP 1900+.
At this point I'm at a loss. I have no idea what the problem is, but it is the most frustrating problem I've encountered in quite some time. I hate not knowing why things don't work like they should.
So in summary, I have tried to uninstall and reinstall many times. Over the course of the last week I have tried EVERY version of Nero available from Ahead's website and I've tried installing to (and from) a second, third, and even fourth drive with no luck.
I will check back here and pray someone comes up with an answer.

Unfortunately, this isn't a solution post. Just wanted to add that I'm having similar problems as the others. Got a new CDRW, tried to upgrade to 5.5.8.2 to support it (from 5.5.1.1)... no dice. Tried 5.5.7.8 from a friend.. same "corrupt download" installer error.
Hopefully one of us will figure this thing out or learn of a solution and pass it on to the others.
