This is the third error message that I have recieved while trying to install XP. File \$Win-NT$~Bt\Ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded The Error code is 7. Has anyone recieved this? I have had XP installed once and I love the new operating System. I started running into disk space issues so I decided to re-format and do a clean install. This was one week ago and I still do not have it back on my system. I had to reinstall Windows 2k and that is working like a dream as it always has. I did at one point get XP to install at boot up from just the CD everything was fine except I could not raise my moniter settings so in my final attempt to raise it I changed the setting to restart the computer before the setting took effect. When I restarted I never could get my moniter to work. I had to reformat again and I was not able to get it to install again from the CD.This is the most frustrating computer problem that I have ever had. I can usually fix my computer issues but this one has given me a run for it. HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP. Thanks Phil

I have the exactly the same problem as you, I get the Error 7 message. I tried to upgrade first but that didn't work. I then formatted my HD and the problem is still there. For some stupid reason the file that XP says it can't load is in the form ntkrnlmp.ex_, meaning it hasn't been expanded into the .exe form yet. I have absolutely no idea how to remify the situation.
My only thought is that it has something to do with my motherboard, which is an ABIT BH6, or the fact that I have two hard drives. What is your system like Phil?

I have the same problem. so i looked on the Xp CD for the file Ntkrnlmp.ex_ found it then looked in the \$Win-NT$~Bt\ found the file and noticed that the file in the \$Win-NT$~Bt\folder and noticed that the file had no file size the CD has the file but you cant copy it off the CD if anyone has the file could they forward it to me.

I had similar, but somewhat random problems, if I didn't get the above errors, I would have problems copying files from the CD.
I almost had a fit with win2k doing this, but I seemed to get around it by playing with the chipset settings in my motherboard (QDI Advance 6B). Specifically I changed the DRAM timing (was: SDRAM 8/10ns now: Normal), as well as SDRAM cycle length to "Auto". Its installing on the PC as I write this, so I don't know if what I did helped, but it looks like its almost done, and forsure I could never get this far.
Good luck,
P
