I have to install a dvd burner in a friends computer. I have installed plenty of hardware in PC's, including drives, but I'm not that familiar with XP.
I assume I should set it up as the slave on the HD (Primary) channel.
What should I expect from XP at reboot? Is it very similar to the New Hardware Wizard that would come up in Win 9x for example? Is there anything different with XP that could throw me for a loop as far as getting it recognized and installing the driver?
Will XP wizard just ask me for the driver disk, or is it done differently with XP?
Thanks a lot!
John

Yes.
PlugnPlay. Yes - It will notify you of install. Ask for Sftwre. No. Make sure XP certified software, else run compatiblity wizard.Yes, no.Have Fun.
Some cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go.

A DVD burner and any other optical devices should be set up as master or slave on the secondary IDE channel. XP should recognize the new hardware and install drivers for you. I have seldom ever had a problem with installing new hardware. XP will only ask you for the disk if there are no drivers within XP for this equipment. Check Device Manager after install to see if there are any problems with installation.

if you get that burner to work, i would like to know how,,my husband and i both have pc`s with xp professional and we ave tried to install dvd burner x-actly as told to by the installation manual and it will read but not burn a dvd. It says to uninstall intel application , did you have to do this? i am still trying to find out how to uninstall intel application
