Instaling linux over windows XP

Hi everyone,
I am new to linux. I have a laptop with pre-installed windows xp on it. How can I do dual boot with linux on the same hard disck.
I would really appreciate it if someone out there can give me guidence.

You will have to create a new partition for linux or keep unformatted space on your harddisk.
Make sure that you have free space at the beginning of the hd (or else there might be problems with LILO, the linuxprogram that boots the OS.
When setting up linux it will give you the option where to install. You can let linux create its own 3 partitions.
Thatīs it actually. Be careful and check how linux wants to use your free space or partitions.
