infrared on dell latitudes

I have a dell latitude c510/c610 with XP and a dell latitude xpi CD with ME. I can't get their infrared ports to connect (the c510/c610 has no floppy drive so i am trying to send info via infrared). Ive tweaked the settings and evrythin but it still wont work. Help!
