I was attempting to fix my computer by deleting a trojan virus that I just became aware of, but in my attempts to fix it, the PC restarted itself and now it won't boot up at all, it just goes to a blank screen and then restarts itself over and over.

I know how to use the recovery tool to restore my PC to it's original factory sealed state, but I have SO much information on my PC that I don't want to loose, and repairing the system will erase everything.

Is there ANY way of getting my PC to start up again without deleting all my files in a restoration?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks so much in advance!

Hmm, not sure I even know how to start it up in safe mode. Yes, I am that bad... sorry. Is it somewhere in the F8 menu?

Ok so whenever I try to do a scan with Ad-Aware, it gets to either "driver cache" or "temporary folder" and then the PC restarts itself...

How did you go about removing this "trojan"? Did you use a specific program for it, such as this one:

or did you start manually deleting files?

Well, I just started using ad-aware I guess and it crashed upon detection of the file. I tried XoftSpy and System Mechanic before and after my problem too, but I still can't detect the file...

If possible, download & install CCleaner. Run it from safe mode...also run Ad-Aware & Spybot (if you have it) from safe mode as well.

XoftSpy is very suspicious. I don't know that it's not legitimate, but I do know I wouldn't install it in any of my machines. System Mechanic is another program that I would never consider installing, but AFIAK, it is legit. Makes me wonder what else you have installed that may have mucked things up for you....

System Admin? In Control Panel? I tried that... but there weren't any options I was able to use. And I don't really know how to imput commands into DOS cmd screen. Plus I wouldn't know what to delete...

try to borrow an XP home edition CD from a friend and do a repair install. That will probably get you going without losing your information. All you would lose are the critical updates.
