I tried to put the delete index dat file in my computer startup but I am getting an error message dx80070005 access denied. any help is appreciated John

Are you exactly sure of the message number? I couldn't find anything in google for it. Could it be Ox80070005?

It doesn't go in the start file. It goes in the C: root file like the boot.ini etc.

I guess you're handling it the wrong way. CCleaner (freeware) will clear index.dat file for you properly and correctly. Google for Ccleaner.

Are you referring to the old index.bat by RenMan? If so, that's meant for FAT32 Win9x O/S's. It won't run under NTFS/XP.

Do as XpUser directed, get CCleaner;
