Increasing Network Utilization

December 11, 2006 at 01:36:06
Specs: XP Pro, 1500/512
I currently have a Netcomm NB5 modem, and in the task manager, under networking, i notice that when downloading at maximum speed, my network utilization is only at 50%. The Link Speed is 12 Mbps, but i am only downloading at 6 Mbps.

Is there a way to increase network utilization, which would give me more use of my connection?

Thanks.

probably not ... when you read the small print, you'll find out that providers offer 'up to' x-amount mbit/sec. various factors can dercrease your line speed (distance to node, line quality, isp contention rate, etc.).

ask your provider for a dedicated line then you don't have to worry about the contention rate :-)

I'm suppossed to get 20 Mbit, but my modem only supports 12 Mbit. I can only get 6 Mbit, but if i could increase network utilization, i could get it to 12 Mbit.

get a modem that meets the requirements for your line.
