Configuring the Registry Size Limit - http://www.winguides.com/registry/display.php/685/
To save more backups, open \WINDOWS\SCANREG.INI with Notepad and change the MaxBackupCopies= value from 5(default) to the desired number. You can set it as high as 99...but,that's not recommended.*This works for me running ME,and is available to me in my XP partition, although I have/see no need to play with it there...you should be able to,if need be.

It's unlikely you need to adjust anything to accomodate a larger registry database using Windows XP. For Windows 2000, the combined sizes of the registry hives were limited to approximately 376MB (about 80 percent of the maximum paged pool size), but in Windows XP there is no hardcoded upper limit on total registry size. The size of the system hive, limited to 12MB in Windows 2000, was increased to approximately 200MB in Windows XP.
