Comment:

I purchased a new laptop this past weekend with the AMD 64 bit processor. All was excellent until my nephew installed a p2p program(kazaa I think). I promptly uninstalled the program, but I am now receiving popups from the same 5 or 6 sites that are just terribly annoying. This system received little to no popup ads in the first few days until the installation of the p2p program. Does anyone know how I can rid my machine of these same popups that come on any time I just open a new internet explorer window?

Thank you

O yea, and I have already tried deleting all cookies, history, temp, temporary internet files, related local registry entries, and have run my adware program. This is unlike previous popup barrages on my previous computers. I just can't seem to rid them.

Hi.

What anti-spyware program do you use? Is it updated? For absolute protection against spyware, you should get these programs (not only one but ALL of them):

Ad-Aware
Spybot - Search & Destroy
SpywareBlaster
CWShredder

All the programs are freeware. Remember to update their spyware definitions before running.

Hope this helps.

Hmm... it seems that the SpywareBlaster and CWShredder links are not working. For SpywareBlaster try here and here for CWShredder.

My money is on you forgot to disable the windows built in messenger. Look for it in services and disable it. Many exploit that big ol hole microsoft put in xp.
