I am in need of a free firewall that won't block my access to my college's network drives and printers. I have tried zonealarm and sygate and neither of them work. A woman at the helpdesk recommended BlackIce, but that costs money and i dont have any. Does anyone have any idea of what to try?

you just have to change a setting, you need to make your schools domain a trusted domain

Zone Alarm should let you through after you do that

Adjust your settings and get Sygate back it's a whole lot better than Zone Alarm although ZA is good.

After re-reading the initial post errrr mmmm
"I am in need of a free firewall that won't block my access to my college's network drives and printers."
Why do you want to access the college network when your not there?
I might be wrong in interpreting this but surely the college will have it's own firewall that your trying to infiltrate yes/no?
Sorry if I am mistaken here.
