Comment:

I have a pc with a RocketRAID IDE card installed. It is set up with two 200GB Hard drives in a RAID-1 (mirror) array. The OS is on the first partition and the 2nd partition is for storage.

I have just finished reinstalling XP from scratch and want to do a disk image (using DriveImage) so that I can restore the system back to this pristine state if I need to. However, when I set up DriveImage to image the C drive, it restarts the computer to do the operation in DOS mode (obviously, since it can't partition the OS drive while the OS is running). However, it then goes back into Windows XP instead of creating the image first.

I suspect that this is because the image process is trying to run in DOS mode and there are no drivers loaded for the RAID card in DOS. And, there don't seem to be DOS drivers available for my controller card.

So what I want to know is:
1) Is my suspicion correct?
2) What are some workarounds that will allow me to image my C partition on the RAID array.

I have one possible option that I am considering. I have another hard-drive in a removable cage. I *could* install windows on this drive and boot from it temporarily so that I could image the 1st partition on my RAID array. But, I am hoping someone else has an option that is easier.

I am curious as to what you find as well. I have contacted several backup software companies with just such a request and they all tell me it is not supported or do not contact me at all.

Please let me know if you get any good leads on a solution for a RAID backup that actually work.
