The website for BitDefender OnLineScan HELP, opens with a frame (for an image ?), but just an 'X' in top left. When I right-click that X and chose 'Show picture' the frame remain empty.
Can I do something locally to improve on that ?Basty

Sebastian42, The infamous 'Red X' has plagued Windows users in various forms forever. Basically, it means that for one reason or another, your browser can't reconcile an address as instructed. There can be a number of causes (see long reprint below), but the most common causes are settings. Look at yours and be sure you can display HTML and show pictures.
Following is a reprint of suggestions for dealing with the 'red X':
"RED X SOLUTIONS
· These ideas have been gleaned from threads in various mvps.org pages and in the Microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer browser newsgroup. They have helped some people resolve the problem but your mileage may vary.
· Clear all the History and Temporary internet files.
· Turn off any running Proxy Server.
· Change encoding to Western European (Windows).
· Verify the following are checked under Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced:
Play Animations in web pages
Enable third-party browser extensions
Show Pictures
· If you have installed Web Accessories for Internet Explorer, make certain the Toggle Images component is not being used.
· Change caching option to 'Check for newer versions of stored pages' to 'Every visit to the page'.
· Running the following commands (in order) from Start-->Run with all program shut down Note - this resets file associations back to the standard defaults, so some image apps may complain. You can reselect your file associations later):regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll (all versions) regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll (if WindowsME then regsvr32.exe /i thumbvw.dll)
· Open your Registry and check the keys below (start-->Run, type regedit.exe, press ENTER HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jpg Content Type should say "image/jpeg". Do the same for .jpe and .jpeg
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.gif Content Type should say "image/gif"
· Try eliminating the possibility that any download accelerators\pop-up killer\firewalls\AV programs are contributing to the problem. Norton Internet Security was a known cause when IE6 first came out -- reference Pictures Are Not Displayed on Web Sites in Internet Explorer(283807). If disabling resolves the problem, then remove\reinstall the program.
Reinstall MS Virtual Machine.
· It's been suggested that unchecking "Use HTTP 1.1" and then selecting the "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" setting may help. This can be found under Tools-->Internet Options-->Advanced.
Open the registry and - browse to: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\PROTOCOLS\Name-Space Handler\
- Delete the 'http', 'https' and 'ftp' (leave the 'mk' key)
Restart PC for changes to take effect.
· Do an IE Repair.
If you are not using a hosts file, then go to Windows/system32/drivers/etc and rename all host files that begin with "host" to "host.sav"
· Can't see JPG's or GIF's - red x - images missing
Go to IE tools/internet options/advanced/multimedia. Ensure the option to show animations is turned on.
· Make sure your cache is not overfull or corrupt. Create new IE data folders as per this link.
· It has recently been noted that if IE is set to 'auto-select' at view, encoding that some sites will not load graphics. Set your system to western european (windows). If the following registry key exists {1F48AA48-C53A-4E21-85E7-AC7CC6B5FFA8} rename the DLL file to which the CSLID points.
· If no joy, make sure your graphics are associated to Internet Explorer:
Harder way:
Try running the following commands from start/run with all programmes shut down:regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll (all versions) ... and then regsvr32.exe /i shdoc401.dll (with IE5 up)
· Finally, if things are not working check out these links: HOTFIX - IE6 SP1 - Image files do not appear when you view a web page with IE6 SP1:
<http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;EN-US;Q817177>
If you are using a different version of Outlook Express then try this:Click on the Tools -> Internet Options
Advanced Tab
Scroll down to the Multimedia section
place a check in the box for "Show Pictures" Other problems that might prevent an image from being viewed in email -- with or without Outlook ExpressHere are more reasons a red x comes up instead of images in html email:
The sender has sent a link shortcut instead of an image._ A red box will appear in an email if the image is not available from the web site that is hosting it.
_
A referenced image has an incorrect path and points to a non-existent image.
_
For images sent via HTML emails: it is also possible that your email program does not support HTML, and you are unable to view images that are present in the HTML code.
_
HTML emails with pictures embedded in them will only display if you are online the Internet, because the pictures are downloaded from the web site as you are reading the email.
_
There is another possibility._ If the graphic is from a web site is blocked by your firewall program (you do have one, don't you?), it will not display in the email." As you can see, there's no 'one size fits all'.
