I have used a browser (can't remember) before that that had the option to compress images before I viewed them so it wouldn't take so long to load them. Is there a way I could do that? I would like to keep using Firefox because it is my favorite.

Not sure what you are talking about. Usually the images on the Internet are already in a compressed format.

Rule #1: Good Computers don't go down.
Rule #2: There is no such thing as a good computer.

I second Rick's assesment. Even if there was such an option, it wouldn't make sense anymore. To compress an image, your computer would still have to download the entire image before it could compress it. The only time savings would be for your computer to display the image it has already downloaded. After factoring in the time to compress the image, your gain would be nil.

With the specs you have listed, your computer should not have any delay in displaying the pictures. The only problem I could imagine you are having is the time to download if you are on dial-up. In that case, as I already stated, you would get no benefit from compressing images because you would still have to download the images first.

Some ISP's like Netzero have programs that will vary the resolution of the downloaded pictures so it doesn't have to download the full file. This is handy for those who are still on slower dial-up connections.

It actually does work pretty well, a buddy of mine who lives way out in the sticks and has a horrible connection runs it and it does do a pretty good job of speeding up the time it takes to load images.

I've never heard of the browser doing this though, usually it's a secodary application you run in conjunction with your browser.
