Ok, i am in need of some assistance here - and cant seem to find an answer anywhere - any help would be appreciated
recently moved to a house that was connected w/ Comcast digital cable and internet...i bring my computer, set it up in a bedroom and am able to connect to the net via the modem that came with comcast....anyways, since it it not my modem, i was told to buy my own so i would be able to access the net on my own...
i buy a Motorola cable modem, hook it it up to my computer, everything seems to be working fine (all lights on and working) except i cant connect to the net...called motorola and they said they dont know what the problem is and that i should call Comcast....Comcast tells me i DONT need the modem all i need is a Router because if we have 2 modems they have to charge us double ( i have a router but its not hooked up) - ok, so here is the problem...How do i connect the router to the original comcast modem, which is ALL the WAY downstairs and have that connected to my computer which is upstairs??? this makes no sense to me as thee is no cable jack on the back of the router - if the modem has to be connected to the router and then to my computer there is no way to do this besides running a LONG LONG ethernet cord up the stairs and into my room which is not going to happen....i have no clue what to do next - any help will be appreciated

Get a wireless router and pci card for the remote computer.
The cable goes to the modem, modem to router, ethernet cable to the wired machine then follow the setup instructions for the remote. Please post back within 24 hours or I will delete the post from my follow up list. Thanks. It would be a courtesy if you would post back and let us know if the fix worked or not.

Maybe I'm missing something here but...If you have only one computer, you do not need a router. The fact that your original modem worked tells you that. Why not pay Comcast or whomever for your modem that works? Your Motorola modem is not registered, set up properly, or not compatible with your present Comcast ISP. You only need a router for more than one internet connection with only one cable modem and if you need only one connection, Comcast misunderstood. For more than one internet connection using a modem and a router, you will only have to pay a small additional charge based on the number of computers connected.
