CPU/Ram: Amd Athlon/128

i am trying to connect 2 computers to use the same internet(dial up) connection. im using a hub with a cat 5 regular cable the main computer is using win xp pro and my other one is using win 2k any answers will be appreciated. it jsut doesnt seem to be working

ok, theres a few different ways. it you have a just a hub, modem is in PC A along with a NIC card in pc A, and a nic card in PC B. you need to run network setup wizard. it will walk you through the process and make a floppy that will auto configure pc B.

i did the network thing but i dont have a floppy drive, cant i just do the same thing on the other computer

Not a lot to do on the other machine. Just set up Internet Connection Sharing on the computer with the Modem.

On the other computer, set it to obtain IP address automatically and everything should work. It will get all the information it needs via DHCP on the host computer.

i am right now installing xp on the other machine...how would i set it to obtain an ip address automatically

When XP is installed run the Network Wizard and select "This computer connects through another computer on the network or through a residential gatway."

The wizard should then configure everything for you.

when you have both pc's networking then go to the main pc and go to control panel then network connections then right click on local area connection then go down the list and make a bridge connections.then you will be able to hook up to the internet at the same time and so on.

thanks i got my hub up and running but now when i go and try to get online with my other computer it does nothing, i do ipconfig and that does nothing, and there both running XP Pro, any ideas

i still cant get them to do anything, im using aol that might be the problem but i dunno. i really wannah get this figured out so i can have internet on both
