I'm getting UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME MESSAGE

Hewlett-packard / A530e
July 21, 2009 at 15:02:36
Specs: Windows Vista
I'm getting "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" MESSAGE
"STOP: 0x000000ED (0X842ede30,0XC000014f, 0X00000000, 0X00000000)"
Then when I try to do system restore: it crashed out to an error:
"FILE SETUPDD.SYS COULD NOT BE LOADED. THE ERROR CODE IS 4128
SETUP CANNOT CONTINUE, PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE"

I cannot find my cd's to restore, and do not a bootable floppy. HOw do I fix this mess so I can backup all the data, and reformat the HD to clean it up?

What does the (0X842ede30,....) part mean? I've tried to get into system retore, and recovery, but I cannot get past the cycle of start and fail. I get to the Blue Screen of Death only by trying F10 (System Restore) and it fails to the above notes. I've got a brand new (still in the box, 3 years old,) WD 160GB HD waiting to go in place, but I'll need to have an operating system to get it up and running. Help, please.

"What does the (0X842ede30,....) part mean?"
That would be a memory address and as such is unimportant.

Did you follow the steps outlined in the article I pointed you to?
