The AMD T-Bird 1.4G and the AMD XP 1800 which would you purchase to run XP on?
I have my mind made up with the AMD processor over the other brands, but I can't decide which one to purchase for my new computer and thought I would ask for some help from those who may know.
The price difference is $20 more for the XP 1800, but does it do the job as well as the T-Bird?

I would go with the XP 1800+ just because its gonna use DDR memory which is clocked at 266mhz..I think the bus speed on the T-bird is at 200mhz...And for $20 more i think your getting a way better product and better performance with the more recent XP processor...But yes both will function flawlessly with windows XP...good luck

The AthlonXP has special instructions just for Windows XP, and the AthlonXP 1800+ will outperform a P4 2.2GHz. Don't base speed just on MHz, because it is simply untrue. Go for the 1800, you'll love it. I also hear that is very stable with Windows XP. Good luck on your purchase!

The Athlon XP performance ratings compare with Athlon T-Bird performance. Although the 1800+ runs at something like 1533MHz, its performance is equivalent to an Athlon t-bird 1800MHz(if they existed). So on that note $20 is a small extra investment to future proof your system a few months longer, go for it.

Thanks everyone for your helpful hints!
I am going to go with the XP 1800 over the T-Bird. If I had the extra bucks that I plan to throw into some software I would of probably went with the XP 1900, but I think the 1800 will do just as good a job.

The Athlon XP processors are actually outperforming their equivalent P4 processors so your statement is untrue there Jox - at the moment anyhow.
