I'm having a problem with iexplore.exe using the majority of my CPU. This occurs even when I am not utilizing any windows. Right now I have 1 window up (this one)and iexplore.exe is running at 3263k, using about 70 of the CPU. I don't really notice any problems... however, my CPU usage stays up around 70 spikes up to 100. I've tryed to "end task" it but it just respawns itself. I've used Norton, StopZilla and SpyBot, thinking it could have been some virus/adware/spyware. But it's still doing it. One thing I noticed is that the user name is "SYSTEM". This is not the same as the iexplore.exe for the window I have up. I've also noticed that I can no longer run cleanmgr. It simply locks up when I try. I don't know what else to do.. SOMEONE???? ANYONE???? HELP????

I'm having the same problem. Suddenly kicked in around 10PM last night (Aug 12) It's got to be a virus/spyware/trojan(I'm totally up to date on patches etc, and I wasn't even running IE the evening it hit.
I can ctrl-alt-delete it out of existence, but it returns on every startup/logon.
I imagine it'll just take a few days until enough people have been struck by it, and the anti-virii corporations come up with a fix.

Yeah IEexplore.exe does use a lot of space. It uses a lot on my comp for some reason, although my CPU usage stays under 50%. I guess the only reason I'm replying is b/c you mentioned adware blockers. I use AdMuncher and it's the best one I've found so far. I got it off download.com. You can add sources if any leak through so that ad is never seen again. It also doesn't take up that much space or use too much of your CPU usage. Good program, and it can run in the background. Totally customizable.
Oh, and I also have that problem where my windows freeze. It says "not responding" and I can click on "end now" as many times as I want and it takes like 5 minutes before anything happens. I learned that if you press ctrl+alt+delete and click on the "processes" tab, you can close the window that's causing the problem in the click of a button. Only problem is - you lose all data. But it's better than letting your comp stall at 100% usage. Just an idea.
