IE-Clear History Doesn't Work

I revisit sites in the IE history a lot but sometimes it gets very cluttered so I have to delete all the items and start over again. Sometimes when I open the Internet Properties and click the Clear History button and I look back at the history, everything is still there. I don't have IE open, either. However opening the history folder and manually deleting the files work. I'm just wondering why the Clear History button doesn't work sometimes, even with IE closed.

orangutang, can't tell you why the button won't work. Seems to me it should so I'm in the dark as much as you. Try a different approach. Clear out your temporary folder(s) by running disk cleanup under start>programs>accessories>system tools. That should get rid of lots of stuff. HTH. Ed in Texas.

Yep, in addition, Crap Cleaner (ccleaner.exe) will do the rest. It also cleans out the index.dat file in Temporary Internet Files that Disk Cleanup doesn't. The index.dat file will be cleaned after a reboot, everything else is done in seconds. The default settings of ccleaner are safe. Peter
