IE7 has suddenly started to run slower than usual on both my Win XP machines. It often won't load a page that it once loaded just fine. It now takes forever to load some pages. In general it just won't work like a browser is supposed to. I have tried every setting under Internet Options but nothing works. I have all the security updates. Is there any tweaks or settings that will fix IE7 and make it work like it is supposed to?

Please don't tell me to try another browser. I have Netscape, Firefox and Opera. I like IE7 and I want it fixed so please help me with IE7.

TIA.

Software gives me a headache.

See if it helps to delete Temporary Internet Files. The folder they are in is of limited size, and can get full.
Other browsers call it Cache.

Tools - Internet(options) "delete temp files, delete offline content"

Change the web cache to 64mb.

Run a spyware checker to be sure nothing is hogging bandwidth.

In the end, you will have a MUCH BETTER experience using Firefox, or other mozilla product. IE is the built in web browser with winblows and is far from the best choice. In the end you will most likely have to migrate to another browser. Microsoft sucks.

I happen to like IE7 so I tried to salvage it. Cleaning out the Temp. Internet Files helped but not enough. On the other machine where IE7 is running even slower than on this machine the cache was set below 64MB. So I have been forced to switch to another browser as my default browser. I picked Netscape Navigator 9 for both machines. It is much faster than IE7 but lacks a few custom touches that IE7 has like Haute Secure, something I rely on. But all-in-all NN is a very good browser. Thanks for all the help.

Software gives me a headache.

First thing you want to do is to clear your computer cache. This is a temporary storage for all the info that you have downloaded from the net. This doesn't have to be an active download. Just going to site requires that you download info to your computer. To clear follow these directions. You may want to even try reducing the cache.
http://www.delete-computer-history....

Manual steps to erase your temporary internet files.

1. Quit Internet Explorer, Firefox, or any other web browser
2. Click Start, click "Control Panel", and then double-click "Internet Options".
3. On the General tab, click "Delete Files" under Temporary Internet Files.
4. In the Delete Files dialog box, click to select the "Delete all offline content" check box , and then click OK.
5. Click OK.

Next you need to control what programs have access to your bandwidth. There maybe dozens of programs using your internet connect if you havent restricted this. You can use a firewall to control the traffic. Also limit these program by changing your startup configuration. Here is how:

1. Open your Start menu.
2. Click Run
3. In the command screen type "msconfig.exe"
4. In the "system configuration utility",
click either "service" or "startup" tab
5. Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.
6. Click "OK"

Lastly but not least is to clean up your major file system. Also known as your registry. During internet use the computer will constantly check your registry to be able to load programs or applications quickly that you may require during your surfing experience. This filing system holds all the information on updates, installs, uninstalls, etc. So, it can be humongous. If it is bloated, error-filled, or fragmented. You are going to have major slowdown on the net and in your overall PC experience. Scan your registry to make sure that you filing system is fuctioning efficiently.
