Have had this problem for a long time, and not been able to figure out what causes it.

I have favorite websites that i go to, that i log into. IE7 asks me if i want it to remember this information, and ofcourse i click on yes.

I can reboot, go to that website, and it automaticly logs me in...... great!

What is not so great, is that every 3 or 4 days, i go through a series of cleanup programs, and then make a mirror image backup of my boot drive. This is where the problem seems to occur.

I use Window Washer, Disk Cleanup, Ace Utilities, Ad-Aware 2007, and Advanced System Optimizer, to initialy cleanup the hard drive, before defragging it and then making the mirror image backup.

After i do all that, and then go to the website, i have to now log back in again.......... grrr

I have gone into all of the programs, to make sure that the cookies pertaining to the websites i have to log into, are NOT deleted. But that does not seem to cure the problem.

Is the information for logging in, kept in something other than the cookies?

It's not that i want to look at that file, so much as wanting to know what kind of extention it might have, so that i can go into my cleanup programs to make sure that particular type of extention does not get marked for deletion.

My login info is kept in the temp files - not the temporary internet files. It took me awhile using cccleaner before I found out not to delete the temp. files. It is OK to delete the temporay internet files. At least it is on my computer.

I can't speak for the other cleanup programs but when using CCleaner here is how I handle that problem.

Immediately after running CCleaner Go to eash of your sites and login. Don't do anything more than login. Same for your email recovery. After you have visited all your sites then open CCleaner and run Analyze. Click on the options button on the left side of CCleaner and choose to exclude everything that is showing on the Analyze list. From then on CCleaner will ignor those items.

I believe the other program also have similiar features.

You can then allow CCleaner to delete other temp files if you wish.

According to the following article, IE7 passwords are saved in three locations, depending on the type of the saved password. None of the three locations use temp files.

I don't know if CCleaner also purge passwords from these locations.

You mention CCleaner. Does it do the same basic things as Windows Washer? By that i mean clean out the temp folder, temporary internet foleder, etc?

Windows saves MD4 hashes for IE and login. Be careful! It is not a safe practice. Someone with programs, like one from Nirsoft, could know your password if you sign-in from multiple user environment. Also, Yahoo, Hotmail/MSN, and Google passwords stored similarly. And you think governement is evil. Best way to store passwords is using KeePass, RoboForm, or Password Safe, which encrypt with AES 256 bit encypherment protocol.
