Got a wierd situation here...

I was surfing and all of the sudden my system reboots by itself. Now, when I try to launch IE7 (which was working perfectly up until this occurred), it just says "connecting" in the tab and hangs there. I let it ride for a bit, but, nothing happens. When I try to close it, it says "Not Responding" and the "End Program" box pops-up.

I've ran both AVG and Ad-Aware, and it doesn't show that I have any viruses.

I've tried the "Reset Web Settings"...same thing.

I've also did a system restore and started it from "last known good configuration"...nothing.

Now, here's the kicker...if I go to C:WINDOWS/IE7 and launch it from there, it works (sometimes).

AND...When I'm in Outlook and open a message that has images (bestbuy, etc...). THAT mail message will hang, too. And, I have to "End Program" my Outlook, as well.

Any ideas? I would really appreciate any assistance/recommendations you can offer to fix this issue. This is killing me! Browsing is my LIFE!!!

Thank you for your help!

dragontengu, SWAG, IE is a common target of nasties. First I'd try IE repair to see. If that fails, maybe it's a Trojan? Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean , other times, it gets missed entirely.
If you need to clean one, Superantispyware can do the job and you can get it free @:
http://www.superantispyware.com/
among other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed.
If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update prior to running and disable 'restore' so it doesn't get put back. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux.

Hi, Ed! Thanks for the response and advice. I've turned-off sys restore and ran the program that you recommended. It found 71 spyware and 1 trojan. After clean and reboot, my IE7 is still hanging. Would you happen to have any other suggestions?

Thanks so much for your help!
