Comment:

installing IE7 and now it has been taking over all folder/file icons for any CD/DVD i insert. i swear to god there was a post about that problem here not too long ago ... somehow i must have lost my magic touch (it's this time of the year, up to walls and lacking sleep :-), neither can i find this post nor a solution (which i'm pretty sure have contributed).

dunno what went wrong, did it a hundred times before ... this one was a brand new acer laptop out of the box. maybe i didn't restart right away and continuing with some other stuff, it's the only explanation, damn rushing things in a hurry!

tnx

what audio/video player does your notebook autoplay once you insert a music disc or dvd?

fb2k/vlc ... what difference does it make? (and thanks be to jesus, it's not MY 'notebook' :-)

i'm talking about audio AND data CDs ... ANY file or folder is shown with the all new shiny ie7 icon :-)

Open C drive-tools-folder options-view and change the icon for the program/device.

nah, Per ... it's NOT the device icon. the ie7 icon is taking over ANY folder or file (regardless which type/extension) ... but only on media inserted into the dvd drive. not on the hard drives. we had a post here about exact the same problem not too long ago :-(

Hi mattie - the most recent posts related to IE7 & desktop icons is found in the following CN's messages: 156511, 156820, and 157814.

I'm not sure if any of our suggestion helped because none of the OP reported back to us.

I also took a look at this MSDN thread that says something about the size of desktop icons being the culprit. If nothing works, revert back to IE6.

You know what? Whenever desktop icons look funny I would bring up Tweak UI, click the "Repair" link, then in the right pane of Tweak UI, click on the pull-down and choose "Rebuild Icons". Click "Repair Now", then "OK" to close the dialog box. Try it.

you got it!!! :-)

tweakUI simply kicks the iconcache.db ... and nope, this didn't work, tried several times.

Instead of rebuilding the cache - log in safe mode as adm and delete the ShellIconCache or IconCache.db file(s). Windows will rebuild it upon reboot.
