for awhile now I have had this extremely annoying problem. Whenever I click a link in Internet Explorer to download a file, nothing happens. If I right click and go to save target as, the dialog box that normally pops up as soon as you click that just flashes up for a fraction of a second. MS won't give me any support because I bought an OEM copy of Windows XP from a wholesale store. I've gone over all my security settings and options for IE and have SP1. I've been just using DAP to download files but that doesn't always work. Another unusual behavior that might be linked to this is that most of the time when I try to download a file with DAP instead, DAPs download window close before it starts downloading. I have to keep going into the main DAP window and starting the download several times before it will actually start making connections and download the file.

Chris see if this helps...
Open int explorer go to tools/internet options
open the security tab
go to custom level and make sure you have enable downloads in that box of options for
the internet etc.

I get this problem too! I have a second account set up on my laptop, and that is able to download files, although my main account will not!
I cannot use DAP as the firewall at my college blocks it!!!!!! >_<

As I said in my original post, I've gone over all my security settings and options for IE. I have a cable modem hooked directly to my comp, no routers, and no firewalls are on.

I have the same or similiar problem...
When I use DAP, the file you donload gets split into let's say 7 different files..
DAP downloads the last 5 files completly, but the first two just hang and eventually timeout. I thought maybe it was just DAP, so I uninstalled it.
Now when I try to download using EI, the download dialog box opens, but nothing happens... It just hangs and that's it! I wonder where the problem lies.. I just installed XP yesterday, and this is getting frustrating! I have never had a problem like this before. I am also using a canle modem. All the settings in IE are correct. Seems kind of weird that so many people are getting this problem.
