I am stumped.
I have discovered that IE6 will not download or play animated gif files.
I get an image, but the file will not play, and it is not downloaded to the Temp Internet Files folder. Also, if I try to save the image, it will only save as a .bmp.If I open the same page using another browser called Fast Browser, the animation works just fine, and the gif is downloaded to the temp internet folder like it should be. Then when I open the page in IE6 the gif plays, because it is then reading the file from the Temp Internet folder. If I clean that file out, IE will no longer play the file, or download the animation.
I have uninstalled IE6 and re-installed. I have gone through all the settings I can think of in the Tools/Internet Options/Advanced. All the graphics and multimedia options are enabled. I have even gone through the security settings one by one with no change.
What am I missing?

Seracca, Delete your Temporarary Internet Files including "all off-line content" then try it again. Sometimes this will correct the problem.

Sorry, I should have said I have done that. Further, if I try to save the animation in IE6, it will only save as a .bmp file, not .gif so I have removed the downloaded program files as well, as per a Microsoft Knowledge base article found here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;810978
Still can't play the animations.
I have done several searches on various help forums and I have found others with the same trouble, but no solutions. Still ... SOMEONE must know how to fix this.

Seracca, Try opening IE/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab, scroll down to "Multimedia" and put a checkmark in front of "play animations on web pages", click Apply, click OK and restart your computer. I don't know if this will solve the problem but it's worth a try.

Do you use ZoneAlarm, or another firewall? If the answer is yes, there you can also block animations. Remove this block and it will work again.

Lesley ... I did that first thing.
Charlie ...I do have Zone Alarm and haven't changed the settings that I know of, but I will check when I get home
thanks

Charlie ...you're a genious!
That's where the trouble was. I must have been fiddling with the settings and had blocked Animated Ads.
Blocked ALL animations! Thanks for the help
