I'm using IE6. The message "The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need" keeps appearing on *part* of the Web page, usually near the top, even though I've reached that page. As far as I can see, I've got images enabled, so it looks as though it's ads. that are being blocked...How do I correct this, plz? (I don't mind ads. - I just ignore them anyway!).
Thanks,
John.
P.S. The same pages in Firefox just show a white space where the "cannot be displayed" message is shown in IE6.

sounds like a toolbar that isnt present anymore, try right clicking somewhere around your address bar and see if there is an option for some toolbar you don't have anymore, could be anything from peoplepc to norton or yahoo. If you cannot figure it out, Run HijackThis, do a scan and it will tell you what toolbars are installed.. It was probably a piece of spyware that was removed, thats what it sounds like..

Hi, Bryan, hi, cmnetworx,
Bryan, the problem is on pages all over the Net, but there are a lot on this site...
cmnetworx, I don't think it's got anything to do with toolbars. This stuff appears *within* the Web pages as though something is being blocked. On this page, for example, I'm seeing an orange square ad. for www.runtime.org, and just underneath it is a whole section with the "The page cannot be displayed" message - a fairly big chunk of the page itself. In Opera & Firefox, there's nothing there at that spot - just whiteness. Weird...
Any other ideas?

Try emptying you Temporary Internet Files (TIF) folder.
IE Tools, Internet Options, General tab and hit the Delete Files button in the TIF section. Do include Offline files.
If this resolves your problem and to avoid the problem in the future then go to the Advanced tab, scroll to the bottom to the Security section and place a tick next to "Empty temporary internet files folder when browser is closed". Click Apply and Ok.
Otherwise I would suggest you are blocking cookies for the sites hosting the images/advertisements.
Bryan

Hi again, Bryan,
It's not the Temporary Internet Files causing a problem. Blocking cookies seems to be the answer - that's solved it. :o)
Thanks so much,
John.

You are welcome.
My cookies are set to Accept First Party, Block Third Party and Allow session cookies. (for what that is worth)

The problem came back, so I've battled on till I *solved* it by disabling Windows Firewall and installing Outpost Firewall PRO!
John.
