I have IE6 on my brand new hp pavillion and recently it has been acting up. When i click certain links my browser will open numerous pop up windows. These windows will keep coming until i hit ctrl+alt+del and terminate IE6. I have a popup blocker installed, i also have run AdAware and gotten rid of all adware on my computer, but this problem keeps occuring. Also i have disabled windows messenger incase that was causing the problem. I have looked on this site and no one has really had this problem that i have seen. If you have any insight please feel free to help out. And to anyone who is going to tell me to get mozilla. I already have the latest version of firebird, but my father uses IE. Please help me, i have to get this problem fixed.

One popup stopper that works very well is the having the google toobar on your IE link. It blocks popups very well. I would suggest spybot S&D, Spyguard which will prevent loading of spyware on your machine, or spyblaster. Adaware is a fair program but used in conjunction with others will keep spyware and popups at a minimum. The good news is the next update to IE on SP2 will have a built in popup stopper, just read about this the other day.

Question: Are the popups point to the same location?

Because I'm getting the similar problem too, except that it doesn't popup a lot, only once in a while.

I've yet to find a solution to this though, but I found an odd .xml file in my computer that contains the URL.

Look for the file in this location:

\%windows%\system32\host.xml
