IE6 and Java

Ok so I'm running win xp with ie6 and all is well, EXCEPT the java. when i go to www.simplemp3s.com for example and try to download, i get a java class error. i never got this error with ie 5.5. it tells me to upgrade my ms jvs however when i go to the microsoft website it tells me JVM is no longer supported by them for win xp. what to do??? i'd love to get rid of ie 6 but can't figure out how.
