I assume that you DO have internet explorer installed? If so, are you able to launch it manually - ie by double clicking on its icon or by launching it from Start->Programs?
Also does this happen AFTER you have connected to the net or before?

jasw, FWIW, SP2 seems to have done all sorts of neat things. Maybe your dilema is related? Was it O.K. before? If so, maybe nothing more than a repair or reassociation is needed (reboot?).Is IE set as your default browser? If it never worked, maybe you need to be sure it's there (windows explorer) or reinstall Windows (or SP2, is your copy clean? Some downloads aren't.). HTH. Ed in Texas.

To see if it is installed you can go to Control Panel - Add and Remove Programs - Add/Remove Windows Components and it should be listed with a tick against it.
Were you able to start Internet Explorer youself from the Start Menu or via its Icon on the desktop (assuming that there is one)?
