hi
I was told by a friend that Mozilla Firefox is a faster browser than Internet Explorer.
I would appreciate if someone can shed some light on this and also if just by downloading Mozilla Firefox that would be ok or are there any "side effects" (lol) in terms of losing data. Can i harm my system if i try to switch from Internet Explorer and is there anything TECHNICAL for a normal computer user (like me) NOT to understand. I have heard of Mozilla Firefox and am willing to give it a try once it is safe and easy to switch. So over to you guys.

There are plenty of different web browsers you can try that are supposedly faster & more secure than IE. Firefox, Maxthon, Netscape, Opera, SeaMonkey are some of the more popular IE alternatives. You can install any or all of them. They do not replace IE & do not conflict with each other...each is "stand alone". If you don't like it, simply uninstall it using "Add or Remove" from Control Panel. Opera claims to be the "fastest browser on earth"

BTW, support for Netscape's browser will soon end if it hasn't already.

They're making way for Firefox, Thunderbird etc.

I unstalled K-mellon and didn't like it so I un installed it. Then my iexplore links wouldn't work. I had to reinstall K-mellon and just hide it away in a folder. It was based on IExplore i think and when i uninstalled it it took some files from Iexplore. Not sure what happened. i just reinstalled it and don't use it.

and then there is Opera ... probably faster than both IE and FF. plus it features many goodies that require 3rd party plugins in Firefox (e.g. ad-block, no script, etc.)

and, no, there aren't any issues (like loosing data) with installing another browser.

A friend of mine told me to jump off a cliff, because it was cool.

I declined.

Firefox is overhyped. Microsoft IE obeys group policies and has far better configurable security options as far as the internet zones are concerned. I've demonstrated this to many people. Although, Firefox's web quality is better than IE6 and roughly on a par with IE7.

Firefox is slightly faster than IE for some people, not so for others. Opera is faster than them all, for me, but I just don't like the look and feel. Safari on the Macintosh is probably the fastest I've used, but that browser fails so much I just don't use it.

Many people simply jump to the idiotic conclusion that because IE has 839489495849584 exploits, is that it is rubbish, to change the browser, to hate Microsoft, to buy a Mac, and to worship Steve Jobs. Those people and I don't get on.

That's fine, if you prefer perceived security over actual
security. Which then results in computer insecurity.

I digress.
