My internet explorer has suddenely stopped working. Outlook express is still working tho, and some other apps that use the internet. What do I do? I think it might have been cause of a software I installed, "SSH Tunnel" but i'm not sure. I've uninstalled it now.

In response to the above...I wish we could replace IE outright. Unfortunately many sites require IE (particularly XP mothership) for access.

Hi!
If "SSH Tunnel" was a program that you installed and it started adding urls or acting by itself, then you probably after unistalling it some of its elements were left behind. I had the same problem. Afterwards everything worked fine!
So I'd propose you to install the following programs with their updates and then use them to scan your disk:
1) Spyware Doctor 2) use your Antivirus program 3) Ad-Aware Se Pro, 4) Spybot - Search & Destroy.
I hope that will help. Of course if the case is different don't install anything.
Keep me posted! Good luck!

I know there are alot more browsers out there most of which are much better than IE but like xpuser said most sites require you to have IE. Plus I use microsoft fingerprint scanner and that only works with IE otherwise I could just use Mozilla. Thanks for the message popi. I'll try that and let u know

Still no luck. msn messenger is'nt working either cuz of IE not being able to connect to the internet. I ran the troubleshoot and the test results were as follows

IP.. OK
Default Gateway.. OK
IE's offline setting.. OK
Hosts file.. OK
DNS.. OK
Proxy server.. Error
Key ports.. Error
Wireless.. OK

Failed to connect to the service. This could be due to improper proxy or firewall settings. Please review your proxy and firewall settings. Proxy settings can be accessed through MSN Messenger Options. For Firewall settings, please see the retailer's instructions.

I'm running windows firewall. I tried turning it off but that made no difference so it's probably something wrong with the proxy settings then?

Maybe yes and maybe not.
Have you tried to repair your system using the WindowsXP repair option through their original cd?
Mmm, maybe you should also try Microsoft site for more information.

Found out what the problem was. I had remotely accessed my computer from somewhere else when I was using shh tunnel and it changed the proxy settings at my computer to the proxy settings of the network from where I was remotely accessing it. just fixed that in the IE and its back to normal again. anyway thanks guys
