Try installing the lastest Xp home service pack 1a , this fixing a load of errors. Juts launch Windows Update and select the service pack. Otherwise i cant think of much else.

I have the same problem and I have all the updates installed. From what I have read, there is still no fix available from Microsoft, most annoying

You may find it helpful to unintall IE first. Exactly how to do it, you have to the search online.

Note: if your IE locks up (hangs), how can you get into windows update? do you actually mean "Windows AutoUpdate"?

If you use Auto update, it wont actually launch a web browser, it simply runs in ur system tray, as for un-installing IE, go to program files, then Internet Explorer, then click the un-install folder, and launch the exe, IE doesnt appear in the Add/remove part of control panel, so perform what i said above to un-install IE.

I can't get into program files because that opens
an explorer window. How can I start in safe
mode?
