Hi all,

Ah, the trials and tribulations I've had with IE/Explorer favorites. My latest is:

About 2 months ago I imported IE favorites onto a new machine running XP. These favorites were exported from a W2000 machine. The problem is that ALL my favorites are now listed on my XP machine, including those that I rarely/never visit - they aren't hidden. So now I have a pile of favorites listed every time I click Favorites on the IE or Explorer toolbar.

My last problem was with IE on W2000 - several of my most-regularly used favorites disappear along with those I rarely use...

Anyone have a solution to either or both problems?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

go to Start> Settings> Taskbar & start menu
(If you have windows xp start menu and not classic you will have to right click > properties somewhere in there.. preferably on the top like where you name is (cant be a group has to be nothing select)

Make sure Used Personalized Settings is checked.

there you go :)

I'm really confused... do you LIKE or HATE personalized settings?

If you LIKE them, then do this, but yes your favorites will 'disappear over time', but they still there.

If you HATE them then don't enable this, and all your favorites will always be there to the end of time, or your machine. Probably the machine.

HTH,

J.

Thanks for the replies. If only it was that simple. Personalized Settings is already checked.

I do like personalized settings when they work!:
In XP they don't hide like they should and in W2000 they hide when they shouldn't!

What a pain in the ass. Any more suggestions?

Thanks.

I recently installed a new OS (XP Pro)on a new hard drive and copied my favorites from the old drive onto the new in the favorites folder. The same situation that you described has occurred with me. The OS on the old drive was the same as this one. With the old OS the favorites only started to 'auto-hide' in the past couple of months. I thought it was the result of a setting or tweak that I had inadvertently changed. Until that time I was not aware of this feature in the favorites menu, but now that I've become accustomed to it I find it quite convenient. There must be a bug with this feature--if you figure out a fix please let me know and I'll do likewise. L. Long
