Comment:

Whenever I click on an icon which uses IE (internet, control panel, my documents, etc) I get the following error:
Failed to Get Data for 'ac'

I can hit OK and the item will open but if its the Internet then it will shut down as soon as it opens.
Any ideas on how to correct this issue? Thanks.

Repair IE6

Windows XP comes with Internet Explorer 6. Microsoft has made IE part of the core operating system. If you think IE is screwed up, and want to repair it, you must use the sfc command:

Sfc /scannow

which will scan and restore protected system files (which IE is).

Thank you.
I'm a bit of a computer idiot so can you tell me where I would input that sfc/scannow command. I would try it under RUN but I'm not sure if this is correct.

You can reinstall IE, Windows XP, and run sfc but it's not going to help. In order to fix this problem you're going to have to download SpyBot Search-Destroy software(it's free) and run it to clean up the machine. I'm pretty sure that the Shop-At-Home spyware causes this exact error message. Spybot has fixed this error on 3 PC's of mine when nothing else worked. Thanks.
