Everytime I try to open up Internet Explorer (version 6), I get an error message and the program never opens up.
The error message is the standard "Windows Explorer has experienced an error and has to close" and then it asks if I want to report this information to Microsoft.
I don't know what to do about this, I was thinking I could reinstall Internet Explorer 6, but I don't have a copy of it on a CD and I don't know where to get a copy.
Any help would be appriciated.

are you running updated antivirus, searched for adware or spyware? Run antivirus, adaware, and spybot first, then maybe try system restore.
Here's how to delete temporary files..." Go to start/ control panel and open the “internet options” under the general tab at the top click “delete cookies” and OK and wait til it’s done. Then click “delete files” and check mark to ‘delete offline content too’ and click OK. And wait if needed. Close internet options. Now in the control panel click “folder options” click “view” at the top. Make sure “show hidden files and folders” is checked. Click OK.
Now. > Open “my computer” open C: drive, Open WINDOWS (or maybe WINNT) Open the “COOKIES” folder, and click “edit” “select all” then click “file” and “delete” you may have to do several times to get all deleted. Now in the same Windows folder open the “TEMP” folder and click edit -select all again, and file -delete again. Now also in the windows folder open “TEMPORARY INTERNET FILES” and click edit -select all and also file –delete. Close all windows. (don’t forget to delete from recycle bin)
Now open my computer again and open c: drive, then open “documents and settings” and click “owner” (or your name). Open the “cookies” folder and make sure it’s empty. IMPORTANT >> then open the once hidden folder “LOCAL SETTINGS” and then the “TEMP” folder and edit/select all and delete everything in it. Then open the the “temporary internet files” folder within the local settings folder and delete everything in it too.
If you have more than one user (login). Login as every user and do all of this for each.Don’t forget to empty recycle bin too. "

Thanks for the advice bigtallboy
Well, I tried winsock, the trojan virus remover that was mentioned earlier, I scanned my computer using Norton, I ran Spysweeper, I tried reinstalling IE6 using the Windows XP CD, and I tried deleting all of the temp files and things. Nothing seems to be working.
There are two things that I can think of that could have resulted in this IE screw-up.
I was trying to eliminate spyware last night, specifically that CommonName thing (cnbabe.dll, I believe).
About an hour later I got a virus warning from Norton while I was on the internet. It said there was a trojan horse on a file in the temporary internet files folder. Norton couldn't fix it, but everything was fine for a while. A little bit later I got the same warning and IE closed down.
In the program file directory there were four new folders that were all created at the same time (exact second and everything) which happend to be the time this problem started, 7:32 PM yesterday. Two of the folders were named Adclt and Adwin, can't remember the other ones. I deleted them all.
I guess this explains the problem a bit more. I hope this helps, but I am doubtful.

hit F8 when booting and boot to safe mode and scan with the updated antivirus, adaware, and spybot etc.
( i think it's good to disable sys restore too )
when you think you get the spyware/virus removed, run the winsock and lsp fix. Try IE. If nothing, then maybe system restore or repair windows
