Hello, I just installed the new Internet Explorer 7. Everytime I place a data cd disk into my drive, and I open the window up in Windows, there is internet explorer logo icon overlapping the original icons. I can't seem to find any explanation to this odd problem. When I uninstall IE7 the problem goes away so I have concuded IE7 to be the problem. Any solutions out there? thank you for your time!

da_mainman, Start your computer in SAFE mode then restart it in Normal mode. This will rebuild the iconcache.db file.
If the Safe mode/restart in Normal mode doesn't correct the problem your max iconcache may need to be increased. Go to the link below and scroll down to line 166 right colum and download the "Add Icon Cache Size to Folder Options/View" .reg file. Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it and answer yes to the import prompt. This will give you 4 icon cache choices under the View tab in Folder Options. You can experiment with the choices starting with the smallest first. See if this corrects your problem.

I have done the suggested ideas yet I remain with the same problems. thank you Tufenuf for your time and concern, I will just remain with Internet Explorer 6 for the time being. I have a really odd problem and I havn't heard of any others with the same. thank you.

I contacted Microsoft Support, and after working my way up the escallation tree, I got to a tech with some knowledge.
Apparently this problem is related to the Shell Icon size. If you are using large icons in your shell and install IE 7, this problem appears.
You can test this by changing your shell icon size by right clicking on the desktop (in a blank area of course), select the Appearance Tab, Click the Effects... button, and uncheck Use Large Icons. Then go to the CD drive in Windows Explorer and observe that the bug goes away.
The "Use Large Icons" setting sets a registry key from 16 to 48. You can use regedit to set that key and one (1) other to 47 so that you can have large icons and no bug when viewing your CD/DVD drive in Windows Explorer.
The Microsoft Tech had me change the following two (2) registry keys to 47.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\Shell Icon BPP
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\WindowMetrics\Shell Icon Size
Happy Computing!
