I had a comp tech tell me that my computer was freezing and locking up due to IE 7 on my computer. He said, and I quote, "IE 7 is resource hungry". So now I am on IE 6 with no lock ups, but plenty of error messages popping up. And I have to close out IE 6 every now and again which is annoying. What do you guys think about IE 7??? Should I switch back and ignore his advice??

IE7 shouldn't be causing your computer to freeze u on its own. Resource hungry? Maybe, but no browser should be so resource hungry that you see THAT noticeable effects.
Do you have lots of toolbars and ads latched to IE7? It's quite possible that you're infected with spyware and malware and that its latching on to IE7 in particular.
My advice would be to download a spyware removal tool, and possibly Malwarebytes. Run these, clear out the junk and then invest your time in a browser that is worth the bother - Firefox or Safari!
