this mag has quite some reputation of being too close to m$ in recent years (in fact, they're just accross the road from ms' german hq in munich :-) ... so if ms wants to 'leak' something inofficially, that's the way to do it. why germany one might ask ... well, regarding the browser market, ms is under immense pressure over there as polls have shown firefox market shares well over 50% ... and growing.

Hey mattie - guess what again? Lo & Behold the official M$ IE7 is now available for download HERE!!!

I wonder if the Germany & Yahoo surprise move forced M$ to release it ahead of the supposedly October 29 inauguration.

I just installed the production IE7 version 7.0.5730.11 on the test machine - so far so good.

For those interested, see IE7 FAQ (CLICK ME) for any question you may have, including how to remove it.

I hope the "7" will be the lucky number for MS IE.

actually I have just reverted back to IE6 because of the flash blocking that can't be changed. Although there are supposed fixes out there for this issue, I never found one that worked...
Part of the enjoyment of using a computer is the sending/recieving of files being shared by friends. There are quite a lot of flash programs that are just fun and games and enjoyable to see or play that will not be available to do in IE7...

no such probs with FF & flashblock plugin ... replaces all flash anmation with a placeholder and playbutton, works like a charme :-)

however, i installed this ie 7 release on a 'test drive' and it's working alright (but that is the least one should expect).

personal note: FF is still the browser of my choice ... and will be, until some significant flaws make me change my mind. opera 9.x is certainly a nice browser too. ms & ie lost too much credibility and pounding it on users via 'critical' update certainly violates 'the freedom of choice'.

if ms must develop a piece of software that they think everyone should have, then they should enter a fair competition to prove HOW good they really are. i'd say ms is good enough to do so, question is: why wouldn't they? :-)

i wish them the best of luck and hope the new browser will rid this board from tons of unnecessary ie & security related threads that have become so embarassing for ms over the years. imho there is much more to computing than running various malware scanners on a daily basis :-)

which was an upgrade of choice ... and not necessarily for the better. if i'm not totallly wrong win 95 osr 2 came with IE 3 ... IE 4 was only introduced with windows 98 :-)

ie 3 did not interfer with the windows core and explorer was really fast, a joy to work with and certainly did not perform illegal actions ... the troubles only started with ie 4 when when the ministry of love set out to crush netscape :-)
