I used the Site Searches, but didn't find much. I realize that we aren't supposed to discuss it with others. My question is: is this beta worth installing right now? I also realise there are problems with the automatic updates. There was supposed to be a 'cleaner' beta released this past March. Any input would be appreciated.

Hey Bob, I've had IE7 Beta installed since the first release and haven't had any issues with it. It's in the second Beta phase right now and if there were any updating issues they seem to be fixed.

FYI: If you are on automatic Windows Update the finished IE7 will be deployed to your desktop sometimes this year.

Thanks guys, especially XpUser. I am on automatic update, so I guess I'll just wait for the download. It couldn't be easier, huh?

You're welcome. When MS deploy IE7 they will prompt you to OK or not to OK the installation.

Once the installation is executed there is no turning back (I'm not quite sure how System Restore will play in this scenario).

I have been using IE7 RC1 for quite a while now and the only thing I have found to be bothersome is the active x controls. This auto blocks active x flash players from working and it slows down the page in order to view certain things on websites.Other than that it is much faster than IE6 and has no other issues that I have seen.

Reminder: Only use IE7 beta on a computer that is not your main or work computer. Since IE is so tied in to Windows and many sites do not work correctly on non IE browsers a bug here can mess you up good. If you want to try the Firefox 2.0 beta fine but wait as long as possible for IE.

Thanks, everyone. All good points to remember. Don't worry, I'm not going to take any chances on my main PC. I am still putting in the fine touches after XP crashed in July! (Storm-caused) I'll wait until AT LEAST the full IE7 is released. I was offered the chance to beta test IE7 but, having only one reliable PC up and running I opted out. I'm chicken. LOL

"storm caused". Off topic but that is one argument for turning the computer off and unplugging it when you are not working on it. Of course if you are working on it and you hear thunder do the unplug thing also.

You are absolutely correct, ebk. Normally I do, but due to an illness in the family down in Louisiana, we had to leave very quckly and unexpectedly and I forgot. My bad. I don't blame anyone but myself on that one. It's just that I was heading for a personal record in Windows NOT crashing. Oh, well, it gave me the chance to change my pertitions around better manage my system. I do make backups.

THANKS
